Roofing Cost Index: What It Costs in 92 US Cities

We ranked 92 major US cities by the typical installed price of asphalt shingle replacement (per sq ft, installed), adjusting national price ranges by local labor costs from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Here's where it costs the most — and the least.

How we calculated this. We start from national Roofing price ranges triangulated across industry sources. Because only the labor portion of a job tracks local wages — equipment and materials are priced roughly nationally — we scale each city by the local mean wage for the relevant trade occupation (U.S. BLS OEWS) applied to an estimated 55% labor share, not the whole price. Figures are typical installed costs for a standard residential job and exclude unusual site conditions.
National pricing reviewed 2024-01-01 · BLS wage data 2026-05-08 · Use these as planning estimates and confirm with a local quote.
